Am Ngoa Van
Ngoa Van Hermitage is built of brick, featuring a vaulted brick roof. On the southern side, there is an entrance with three Chinese characters inscribed above: “Ngọa Vân Am,” meaning Ngoa Van Hermitage.
According to legend, when Emperor Buddha entered Nirvana, he lay in the lion posture on a large rock. This rock, where he attained Nirvana, is known as the Nirvana Stone.
Based on the historical document Tran Trieu Thanh To Cac Xu Dia Do, the original layout of Ngoa Van Pagoda did not include the hermitage; it only featured the Nirvana Stone, the pagoda, two stupas, and a stone stele. Therefore, the present-day Ngoa Van Hermitage may have been built on the very site of the Nirvana Stone where the Emperor Buddha attained Nirvana.
