Looking towards the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and national reunification on April 30 (1975 - 2025), on April 19, at the Tran Dynasty Special National Relic Site - Ngoa Van, Dong Trieu City, a Requiem and Tribute ceremony was held for the martyred heroes, people with meritorious services to the revolution, and the police force reinforcing the Southern battlefield during the anti-American resistance war for national salvation.
The program was attended by 300 people, including current and former leaders of the Central Government, ministries, departments, and localities; members of the Vietnam Veterans of People's Public Security Association; members of the Liaison Board of the Police reinforcing the Southern battlefield during the anti-American resistance war for national salvation; and relatives of the martyred heroes' families.
During the years of the anti-American resistance war for national salvation, implementing the Party's guidelines and policies, the Central Public Security Party Committee proactively selected elite police cadres to reinforce the South from 1954 to April 30, 1975. Over 20 years, a powerful police force was formed to reinforce all fronts of the Southern battlefield with a total of 11,294 people. That precious reinforcement helped Southern Security grow strong enough to defeat the US - puppet hostile forces. But also in that life-and-death struggle with the enemy, 909 comrades bravely sacrificed their lives; 46 comrades were imprisoned by the enemy, brutally tortured but still maintained their steadfast loyalty to the revolution; and thousands of cadres were wounded or infected with Agent Orange.
At the program, the delegates conducted a memorial ceremony, together recalling the memories, traditions, steadfast spirit, and indomitable struggle of the martyred heroes and people with meritorious services to the revolution in general, and the police force reinforcing the Southern battlefield in particular, during the resistance war against the US imperialist invasion. At the same time, a requiem was held to pray for the souls of the martyrs still lying on the battlefield to soon return to rest in peace with their comrades, families, and homeland. The delegates together lit flower lanterns to express their reverence and gratitude for the great devotions and sacrifices of the martyred heroes, their relatives, and those with meritorious services to the revolution.
Within the framework of the program, the delegates offered incense in memory at Ngoa Van Hermitage - Pagoda - where Buddhist Emperor Tran Nhan Tong entered Nirvana; visited Quynh Lam Pagoda - a major training center for talented monks of the Truc Lam Zen Sect; and visited An Sinh Temple - a place worshiping the Tran kings.
Organizing tribute activities, Buddhist festivals, and cultural events at Ngoa Van is not only ceremonial but also contributes to spreading the spirit of "when drinking water, remember its source", awakening national pride, and honoring the outstanding children of the country, the predecessors who built the nation, and the martyred heroes who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the nation.
