Up to 5,000 lanterns were lit during the Thuong Nguyen festival at Ngoa Van Yen Tu Pagoda (Dong Trieu Town, Quang Ninh). Around 3,000 Buddhists attended the ceremony to pray for national peace and people's well-being, organized by the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Quang Ninh at this pagoda, where Buddha King Tran Nhan Tong practiced and attained enlightenment.
Lanterns for Peaceful Wishes
At the ceremony, Venerable Thich Thanh Quyet, Vice President of the Central Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, stated that the Thuong Nguyen festival – the Tet Nguyen Tieu on the full moon day of the first lunar month – is the most important festival after Tet (Lunar New Year). "The Tet Nguyen Tieu has always included the lantern lighting ceremony. Flowers symbolize all things and beings in the country blooming and bearing fruit. Lanterns represent the use of wisdom to illuminate our path. The flower lanterns symbolize both achievement and the wisdom that guides us. Through this, we sincerely wish for a grand ceremony to pray for national peace and prosperity, a strong nation, and the well-being of all people," said Venerable Thich Thanh Quyet.
